The Royal Race Day 2018

The running of this year’s Empress Club Stakes (Gr 2) will be a royal affair at Turffontein Racecourse on 21 April.

If you’ve ever wanted to race like Royalty, then Saturday, 21st April is your chance. HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco’s glorious race day, held annually in her honour and host to the Grade 1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes is a day that epitomises style and elegance, but more importantly, and in true racing spirit, has a large charity element attached to it.

The theme of the day historically- and racing is steeped with history- has always encouraged gentleman to wear top hats and tails, and ladies to complete their elegant outfits with a fascinator or hat. This year, the Champagne Lounge, which will be situated on the ground floor, will be exclusive and headdress is a prerequisite for entry.

The course, splashed with the flagship red and white theme, will paint the most elegant backdrop for patrons and taking part in The Best Dressed Competition, and with plenty of cash prizes on offer, one would be sent to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party if you chose not to take part in it.

Princess Charlene has always donated to the causes close to her heart and this year, it will be no different. In addition to the HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes, HSH has sponsored a R250, 000 purse for each of the 2 maiden plates and of course, the Racing Association, who go above and beyond regularly, have agreed to donate all entry fees to these 2 races to the Highveld Horse Care Unit.

Every person on course will too have the opportunity to make a difference to many charities acknowledged by HSH, by taking part in the Diamond Drop to win a diamond worth R150, 000. Only 1000 tickets at R150 are available. You will witness the helicopter swoop over Turffontein Racecourse and drop a marker- should your ticket coincide with the number, an appointment with your jeweller will be the order of the day come Monday morning.
