Royal Raceday – 18 April 2020
It’s called the Royal Raceday for a reason as it is hosted annually in honour of Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco and her foundation. The headline race on the day is the Grade 1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes for fillies and mares over 1600m with total stakes of R1 million. There are also two maiden plates on the day (races for horses which have never won before), sponsored by Princess Charlene of Monaco, with impressive total race stakes of R250 000 each. Whilst Maiden plates are usually the lower valued races, these two races have become synonymous with the Princess’ support for those considered the ‘underdog’.
The Princess has personally attended the race day in previous years and considering her passion for children, the race day will see a number of schoolchildren in attendance, with kiddies entertainment at the forefront. Apart from jumping castles and play areas, there will be live farrier demonstrations, puppet and magic shows as well as plenty of photo opportunities for moms and dads. Entrance on to the racecourse and kids entertainment is free so bring the whole family for a day of fun and festivities.
