On 30 September, the Vaal Racecourse will come alive with the sound of thundering hooves across the turf with the running of The Grand Heritage presented by World Sports Betting.

To date 70 runners have been entered for this one-of-a-kind event which sees an eventual field of 28 runners battle it out over the 1475m Vaal straight for a stake of R750 000.

It’s a day billed as one for the family with the bring and braai area added as a new feature for the 2017 edition to entice visitors to bring the family, throw some meat on the fire and enjoy an exciting day out.

Last year, Irish Pride and jockey Gavin Lerena made history as the winner’s of the first ever running of The Grand Heritage.

There’ll also be plenty to keep the kids occupied throughout the afternoon and the rugby buffs will be taken care of with the Rugby Championship encounter between the Springboks and Australia to be beamed on course.

“This is the second year that World Sports Betting is involved as the sponsor of this race day and we are looking forward to another great day at the Vaal Racecourse,” said Ryno Du Plessis, Marketing Manager for the headline sponsors.

“Seeing 28 horses coming down the track is a spectacle and it’s worth making the trip, for any racing fan and I, for one, can’t wait.

“The addition of the braai area this year is sure to add to the excitement of the day and coupled with the rugby on the big screen it definitely makes for a winning combination.”

“We look forward to seeing all the Vaalies out at the track on 30 September. It’s sure to be a great day out,” Du Plessis added.

There are also hospitality options in the Riverside and Ascot Rooms and these can be booked by calling 011 681 1702.

Every year the Vaal Racecourse plays host to a grooms race and once again the staff of trainers based at the venue will have a dash for cash.

Tickets for The Grant Heritage presented by World Sports Betting are R10 and will be available at the gate on the day.
