JOBURG PRAWN FESTIVAL GETS THE HIGHVELD FEATURE SEASON GOING

Over the coming months, Turffontein Racecourse is gearing up for a number of key horseracing and lifestyle events as the SA Triple Crown roars to life.

The first of these takes place on 4 March with the Joburg Prawn Festival coinciding with the running of the Betting World Gauteng Guineas (Gr 2) as the Highveld autumn feature season gets going.

While the horseracing action provides a thrilling storyline on the track, there is enough happening off the turf to ensure that the whole family is kept entertained as the day progresses.

The food lovers will be taken care of with a delicious offer of R199 for 1kg of prawns with sauce, rice and chips with tickets available from Webtickets, their outlets in Pick n Pay stores or the Racing. It’s A Rush website.

General entrance tickets to the racecourse are R30 for adults and R10 for Under-18s.

There will also be other food vendors on the day to ensure that everyone’s tastes are satisfied and for those wanting to take advantage of the various hospitality offerings starting from R295 per person with a fully inclusive package offered at R625 per person.

For bookings call 011 681 1508.

For those still learning the lingo, the SA Triple Crown is limited to three-year-olds and is a series of three races of varying distances from 1600m with the SA Classic over 1800m and the SA Derby over 2450m.

There’s a R2-million bonus for any horse able to win the Triple Crown while any horse managing to win the Triple Tiara, the fillies equivalent, will walk away with a R1-million bonus.

Last year, a Triple Crown hero emerged with Abashiri claiming the laurels in all three events to join Horse Chestnut and Louis The King in the history books for this rarely achieved feat.
