Mississipi Burning sets Kenilworth Alight - World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas
The #SummerOfChampions kicked off with a bang as the Captain Al filly,
Mississipi Burning, stormed home to give young trainer Adam Marcus an
impressive victory in the R1 million World Sports Betting Grade 1 Cape Fillies
The Rathmore stud bred Mississipi Burning started at generous odds of 22-1 and
cruised home to beat second placed Driving Miss Daisy by three lengths.
This wasn’t the only trophy heading home for the Marcus mantelpiece however as
Vardy, came home to give the Milnerton-based trainer, and jockey Craig Zackey, a
double victory on the day in the World Sports Betting Gr 2 Green Point Stakes just
half an hour earlier.
Marcus, who took out his trainers license at the young age of 22, hails from a racing
family with dad, Basil, an ex-champion jockey and trainer and uncle, Anton, one of
South Africa’s current top jockeys.
It was an action packed day at Kenilworth racecourse both on the track and off. It
wasn’t only the horses and their connections walking away victorious as two lucky
parents walked away with R5000 each towards their children’s school fees in 2020 –
talk about Christmas come early!
Be sure to join us next Saturday, 21 December, as the colts line up for their turn to
fight it out for the title of the Grade 1 Cape Guineas winner!
