Press Room

Following the race meeting on Saturday at Greyville, the Equus Awards voting panel met until the late hours of Saturday evening, to finalise the nominees and winners for this season’s awards. The first round of nominees was discussed after the Vodacom Durban July weekend but was subject to the results of this past weekend before final nominees could be listed.

This year’s nominees are based on graded races and in particular Grade 1 races won. Distance was immaterial except for the stayer category. The only Grade 1 race in South Africa is the SA Derby which is only open to colts and geldings, therefore the winning horse in this category is at the discretion of the voting panel.
