Time to Do It Again… and Again!

The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2020

January 2020… a new month, a new year and a brand new decade. It’s also a
leap year, which many cultures deem to be a lucky AND according to certain
horoscopes it’s set to be a year of strength and prosperity. So if you’ve been
looking to try your luck at the races, 2020 may just be your year – and it starts
off with a bang with the L’Ormarin’s Queen’s Plate Racing Festival!
2020 sees the running of the 159th Queen’s Plate and the fourth year of the
L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Racing Festival taking place at Kenilworth on the 10th and
11th of January. Apart from witnessing some of South Africa’s finest equine athletes
compete over the two days, it’s also one of the most stylish and glamorous race days
on the horse racing calendar – renowned for its signature blue and white dress code.
The 2019 running of the L’Ormarins Queens Plate saw Do It Again from the Justin
Snaith yard taking top honours – the first of many feature race titles achieved in 2019
as he won the Vodacom Durban July for a consecutive year just 6 months later. The
Durban July was however marred by the late scratching of Hawwaam at the start,
but these two champion thoroughbreds meet in the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, along
with Hawwaam’s inform stablemate and last year’s runner up, Soqrat. It’s a small but
supremely classy field of runners participating in the R1.5 million L’Ormarin’s
Queen’s Plate, which promises to be a spectators delight!
